[Abstract] The Seresto Flea & Tick collar from Bayer offers a breakthrough of eight months of flea and tick protection for dogs or cats, setting it apart from conventional flea and tick collars. The Seresto collar offers the performance of a topical with the non-greasy convenience of an easy-to-use collar. Its sustained release technology means that the active ingredients are slowly and continuously released over 8 months. Kills fleas and continues to prevent re-infestations for up to 8 month. The Seresto collar also repels and kills ticks. The Seresto collar is also water resistant and remains effective following monthly bathing, occasional swimming (if swimming occurs more often than once a month, the duration is reduced to five months) or after exposure to rain or sunshine. This collar also features a release mechanism which in the unlikely event of a pet becoming trapped, the pet’s own strength is sufficient to allow for a quick release. How it works? “This isn’t your typical “flea collar”. The Seresto collar has no odor, it has a soft, almost powdery feel to it, and it doesn’t leave any greasy residue on your pet or your furniture. The best thing about Seresto is that it is completely non-toxic! Your dog could eat the Seresto collar and it will not release enough of the medication to be toxic. I suppose that your dog could obstruct from eating it, but Bayer has thought of that, too. The Seresto collar is radio-opaque, which means it will show up on an xray so that your vet knows what the obstruction is! From a vet’s point of view, this is a HUGE benefit!
How does it work? Bayer has taken the active ingredient from Advantage, along with another ingredient that kills & repels ticks, and embedded it into the matrix of the plastic-like material that the collar is made of. (all other flea collars just spray a pesticide onto the collar). Due to the nature of the material that the collar is made of, the active ingredients are continuously and slowly released for 8 months! The release of the active ingredient is triggered by the friction from the movement of your pet’s hair and your pet’s body heat. An added benefit is that Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective after swimming, bathing, rain, etc.
Bayer was also smart enough to make the cat collar a break-away collar. It has several points in which it will break if your cat gets hung up in a tree, so I feel completely confident recommending the Seresto collar to my cat clients. The dog collars come with cute little attachable reflectors so that your dog can be seen in the dark.
Seresto collars are a bit spendy in initial outlay of money, but cheaper than 8 months of Revolution, Frontline or Advantage. The best part is that I NEVER have to think about my pets’ flea control during the entire flea season! I put the Seresto collar on at the beginning of flea season and it just keeps on working until winter.
I can’t recommend this product enough!”
“Great stuff works quicker then the older Advantage. I have an older cat with thinning hair and in less then 5 minutes fleas were surfacing but unlike the older stuff these fleas were dizzy and in their last throws, they barely made it to the top of his thin hair and died. Great stuff and my cat hasn’t scratched since.
Also this may only apply to a select few but the tubes when you open them are silent now instead of making a little noise. I write this because my cat became very aware of this sound and knew it was coming, hated it, hated me for a week, and tried to lick it.
This time with a little milk and my silent tube I was able to apply it to his neck without him knowing.”
