[Abstract] The LCD-based Epson Home Cinema 2040 3D 1080p 3LCD Projector is one of the less expensive 1080p, 3D home-entertainment projectors on the market. It’s also one of the few sub-$1,000 models that are built around a three-chip LCD engine, which guarantees that it can’t show rainbow artifacts. Beyond that, it offers near-excellent image quality, a short lag time that gamers will appreciate, and some video processing features that until recently were available only on more expensive options. It is the best home cinema in 2016 and 2017. Enjoy your colorful and health technical life. Here is the best reviews of this projector.
HDMI Connection, Truly Home Cinema
Epson 2040 is a True Home Cinema Projector, as below:
The 2040 prioritizes HDMI (typically used in home theaters) as the source selections. On top of that, there are play and pause buttons on the 2040’s remote.
Whereas the Epson 2040 projects a 90” wide image. That means the Epson 2040 provides a bigger image than the 1040 at a shorter distance, thus is more living room (or even bedroom) friendly.
Now, what about movies? Let’s say you have The Avengers on Blu-ray and want to watch it in 3D. Again, here’s where the Epson 2040 proves to be more cinematic; it has 3D capability whereas the 1040 does not. You’ll need to purchase 3D glasses separately (Epson lists (RF) ELPGS03 as the official option) — they are a bit pricy and need to be charged/powered — but they allow you to view 3D movies on the 2040 should you wish to.
One key advantage that the 2040 offers compared with its DLP-based competition is that it’s guaranteed to be rainbow free. Many DLP-based models, including the Optoma HD28DSE that I recently reviewed, show few enough rainbows that even if you’re sensitive to them you may not find them annoying. But for those who see these artifacts easily, seeing none is better than not seeing many. The 2040 also offers near-excellent image quality. In my tests, it delivered excellent color quality overall and handled skin tones particularly well.
Shadow Detail, Noise Improvement
It also did a good job maintaining shadow detail (details based on shading in dark areas) and avoiding posterization (shading changing suddenly where it should change gradually) even with our most demanding test clips. I saw some minimal to moderate noise in solid areas in some test scenes, and didn’t see any improvement when I increased the noise reduction setting. However, the noise wasn’t obvious enough to count as a serious problem. It’s also typical for inexpensive projectors.
High Quality Audio, Easy Portable
The 2040 offers a stereo audio-out port, so you can connect an external sound system and still be able to automatically change the audio source when you change the image source. You won’t need to for most purposes, however. The projector’s speaker delivers sound quality that’s in the same class as a typical HDTV, along with enough volume for a small family room. The built-in sound system, combined with the size and weight, also helps make the 2040 portable, which is a common need for a home-entertainment projector. If you don’t have a suitable room to install it in permanently, you can store it away when you’re not using it, move it from room to room, or take it out to your backyard or to a friend’s house.

“I received this Epson to replace my 4th ViewSonic projector that failed horribly. I must say that I should have gone with Epson in the first place and saved myself so much trouble – not to mention that I would have had a much better image from the very beginning! Super clear image, amazing brightness when needed if using in a lit room, quiet compared to many others in its price range/class, many image customization options, seemingly good build quality.”
“This is a wonderful projector.
–1080p HD . . . the projected picture from my non-retina macbook air was so much better than what I’m used to seeing on my laptop . . . it had an air of unreality to it because it was so hi-def
–LCD means no rainbows
–Easy to set up each time with a very easy-to-adjust front leg & two adjustable back legs
–Has a sliding lens cover built in for protection
–Plug-ins all in the back and their placement makes sense
–Plenty of settings to make any viewing situation work (including in room flooded with daylight–not ideal, but we were able to do it)”
